Jody, originally from Waverly, WV, received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Environmental Science and Biology from Davis and Elkins College in 1996. She also participated in intercollegiate women's cross-country for four years while there.

She received a Bachelors in Arts Degree in Allied Health and a Masters degree in Physical Therapy at West Virginia University and has worked as a liscensed physical therapist for six years and received her certification as a Certified Wound Specialist from the American Academy of Wound Management.

She currently works as a Physical Therapist at Davis Memorial Hospital in the outpatient physical therapy department. She has also pursued further training in running injuries and running biomechanics to complement her personal interests.

Jody has continued to run since college and has participated in many races up to marathon distances. She has more recently enjoyed competing in triathlons and in the summer of 2006 completed three half ironman distance races.
